Using the Shopping Cart

Introducing the Shopping Cart

Bookstore Assistant has its own shopping cart that keeps track of the books you select.

Note: Adding a book to your shopping cart does not mean that the book is automatically purchased. You can take any book back out of your shopping cart, add more books to it, or simply exit Bookstore Assistant at any time. No book is actually purchased until you give your final authorization. To actually purchase the book, you will need to enter your credit card number. Even at that point, you can still refuse to buy.

By adding a book to the shopping cart, Bookstore Assistant keys track of the book you want, each online bookstore that sells the book and the price from each bookstore. Note: The online bookstores are only those bookstores that you have selected for Bookstore Assistant to search. (See Selecting Bookstores.)

Adding Books to your Shopping Cart

There are two ways to add a book to the shopping cart. One way is to drag the book's title up to the "Shopping Cart" folder in the Folders List area (right above the Book List area). The other way to add a book to the shopping cart is to highlight the book title, then click on the "Add book(s) to Shopping Cart" button located on the lower tool bar.

Removing Books from your Shopping Cart

There are also two ways to take a book title out of your shopping cart. You can drag the book title, from the listing of books in the Book List area, up to the Trash folder in the Folder List area. The other way of removing a book from your shopping cart is to highlight its title in the list of books in your shopping cart and then click on the Delete button located in the Lower Tool Bar.

Seeing What's in your Shopping Cart

You can see the list of books that you added to your shopping cart at any time simply by clicking on the Shopping Cart folder in the Folder List area. All the titles you have in your shopping cart are displayed in the Book List area.

If you want a more detailed listing of the contents of your shopping cart, click on the button with the two dollar signs on it (). This is the "Show Shopping Cart Checkout Report" button. This detailed listing gives you a comparison of the prices of each book in your shopping cart between each of the online bookstores you wanted searched.

Making the Final Purchase

Note: This can only be done from the detailed listing of what's in your shopping cart, using the button (see above section, "Seeing What's in your Shopping Cart").

Select the online bookstore you want to purchase the books from and click on "CheckOut" at the bottom of that store's column. Bookstore Assistant will take you to that online bookstore and will fill out that bookstore's own shopping cart automatically. Just click on that site's "Proceed to Checkout" or "Checkout Now" button and give your payment details.
